Crush Fit

Last month I attended my first Crush put on by Insomniac at the NOS event center in San Bernardino.  This event takes place in February in the few days prior or proceeding Valentines day, in this case the latter.  The venue was decorated so cute with plenty of benches, food options, and merchandise booths to check out when you need a break from the heat and lights.

I was so excited about the Valentines theme because this gave me the opportunity to make a cute matching set.  My original plans were to go with a hot pink leather top but I fudged it up when I cut out the pattern /:  I had a tiny piece of pink leather that I found at the fashion shop located outside of the FIDM costume exhibit, but I accidentally cut out two right sides instead of a right and left! I guess I will just have to make some type of accessories out the pieces now- oh well.

I found this awesome metallic fabric at Joann’s that came in a ton of colors, too bad I only needed red!  I used it to duplicate my favorite bottoms that I originally got from IHEARTRAVES.  I lay the underwear on my kitchen table and stared at each seam and each piece of fabric. I dissected the garment in my head for a better understanding of how I could recreate these.  I measured the dimensions of each piece and recorded in my notebook what I would need to cut out.img_2571Annnnnnnnd this is how I take notes for making a garment.  My next step was cutting them out-

img_2214** I added 1cm I believe for just a smidge more coverage than what the originals provide, and here is the end result.

Now for the top I wanted to try a pattern that would really hug my figure, so I chose a princess bodice pattern.  The bodice pattern stops at the belly button and does not include the torso, perfect for me because I love a cute crop top!  I had remembered that I fitted myself not too long ago into a princess muslin, and thankfully I was able to locate it quickly.  Unfortunately I didn’t take any pictures of the top configuration process so I’ll just have to talk ya through it! I cut out the pattern and sewed it all together. (SIDE NOTE: like 80% of the time I forget to put a way to get into my garment.. like a zipper, or even a big enough seam allowance to fit buttons or a clasp or somethin, it just slips my mind)  This WAS the case with this garment of course, but I love the way I handled it.  I cut straight up the back and folded either side back about 2 inches..  This would give m a nice open back to lace up, adjustable for slipping in and out of.  I then stitched these flaps down and sewed button holes on either side to lace up the pretty ribbon I chose.

-I did video a lot of making my top.  I might make a time lapse video(:

I had so much fun at the show, my top two were Bear Grillz and Ookay.  It was fun wearing something shiny, a nice change from wearing my usual of all black.  **speaking of all black I made 3 black things these past two months as well!  I think my next blog post will feature them all !
