I don’t like to get rid of things; I always find myself saying ” I could make that into something.” With this being said, naturally, I would not let my mom throw away a leather skirt she used to wear. Instead I figured I could use this fabric to make myself something cute to rock at a show.
I forgot to take a picture of the skirt before I started ripping seams and cutting into it but here is an idea of what it looked like.
I got the idea for this cage skirt from a DIY youtube video linked here.
I started by cutting strips of leather about 3/4 of an inch by 4 1/2 inches (which ended up being too long).
I bought silver 3/4 inch rings at Joann’s for the points of the diamonds and began to sew them to the strips of fabric. I also bought a little black closure to put on the front of my piece.
I intentionally let the waistband be about 2 inches short, but didn’t realize that in doing that it might mess up the final design I had in mind. I didn’t mind that though, I actually like how it turned out-being left open in the front.

I even have enough fabric left to make a matching top. I cant wait to see what I come up with!
PS– I think I will be making a few more of these in different colors (;
